Tell Me What We Did Today

Tell Me What We Did Today is a bedtime storytelling ritual for preschool children, inspired by our oldest daughter, Caroline.

We fell into the rhythm of “reliving the day” through the vehicle of impromptu storytelling each evening. When our daughter didn’t feel like participating, I would make up a bunch of crazy events that never could have happened…until she set the record straight.

The effectiveness of storytelling in identifying and celebrating the moments in a child’s life prompted me to write this book – and partner with the incomparable Warren Hanson to illustrate it. Read Tell Me What You Did Today with your children, and every night will be a journey of discovery.

Girls Can! Make it Happen

Girls Can! Make it Happen! Inspires young girls with the message that they can accomplish whatever it is they set their mind to.  Our youngest daughter, Elizabeth, inspired it.

Featuring interviews with women ranging from U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Conner to Olympics superstar Jackie Joyner Kersee and America’s first female astronaut, Dr. Sally Ride, the book doesn’t just tell girls that they can reach for the stars. It shows them.

The need for a volume like this became apparent to me one night as my daughter and I played the game, “What are you going to be when you grow up?” I suggested a host of presidents, famous governors and senators, and Elizabeth – at the age of three – said, “You’re teasing me. They’re all men.” I wrote this book to help correct for that error!

Another great American woman – illustrator Marilyn Brown of Chaska, Minnesota – did an incredible job of bringing it all to life.
